My iPhone Story!

As some of you know, I am the "Techno Geek" of the three of us and having said that a HUGE Apple supporter. The date was June 29th, on that morning I was at Bedford Hospital having surgery on my eye. I went to bed after coming home and rested comfortably. At 5:30 that afternoon I got out of bed and got dressed and told my wife "it was time"!

"Time for what"? she said. "It's time to get in the car and take me to the AT&T store. I am getting the iPhone"! Well to say the least, my wife was not happy with this thought. It was very hot that day (in the 90's) and the last thing on her mind was to take me to the AT&T store to buy a phone, especially after having surgery that very day.

I begged and pleaded and it was getting very close to 6pm which was the time when the iPhone was going on sale. She finally said OK and we were off to buy the iPhone. I thought that while I knew there would be lines of people to buy this thing because of all the hype that Apple was getting I would be OK because we were going to a store that would hopefully not have a lot of people clamoring to get it. Boy was I wrong!

We got into line (I think I was the 60th person in line) and waited, and waited, and waited! It was actually kind of fun waiting in line. I met some very interesting people who like me was really getting psyched to get this new "business tool". After about an hour and a half we got to the door and it was going to be our turn next to go inside the store and purchase the iPhone.

The door opened and we were greeted by a very nice sales person. "I would like to buy the iPhone please" I said eagerly. "I'm sorry sir, we just ran out of the iPhone, but we can order it for you". At this point I think the drugs from the surgery started to kick in because I didn't take the news very well. "You mean I waited in line for over an hour and a half and you couldn't at least tell us that you were out of stock"? At that point I was not having a good day and left the store thinking that I was not getting my iPhone.

Later that night I noticed that the Apple Store at Legacy had plenty in stock and they were open till midnight. Though I was ready to make the drive to Legacy I knew I had put my wife through iPhone hell so there was no way I was going to say "Oh honey, yes I know it's 11pm but what do you think about getting in the car and driving your poor iPhone deprived husband to the Apple Store". So, I went to bed knowing that there was an iPhone in my future but it would have to wait till tomorrow.

Yes, I did finally got the iPhone at the Apple Store the very next day. I've used it for almost a month now and I have to say it's pretty cool. Was it worth the hype and all the "trouble" my wife went through to get it. YES! I'm sorry, I love this stuff, and despite the problems it was well worth the "wait".

It's Friday...Cavs Win!!!

Kim and I just finished the morning show on 98.5 WNCX and we both got about an hour sleep last night after watching one of the most exciting basketball games I've ever seen. All I've got to say is "How 'bout those CAVS"!!!

LeBron got 48 points and with the help of the rest of team they just cremated the Detroit Pistons. Isn't it great to know that when the Pistons Rasheed Wallace wakes up from his sleep he will be hurting, aching, swearing, and just pissed off knowing he has to get on the bus and come back to the "Q" and do it all over again only to loose and watch the Cavs go on to the Championship Series against the Spurs (I know it's not over till it's over, but we are sooooo close).

Mr. Barkley and company are (along with the rest of the national sports press) changing their tune to LeBron too. Now all of a sudden, according to them, we are seeing the rebirth of the next Michael Jordan. No, I think we are seeing the birth of a superstar just named LeBron. But what do I know, I'm the biggest sports dork in Ohio. I just know what I'm feeling and it's a GREAT feeling.

One more thing, it's good to see Pookey (Eric Snow) having the time of his life on and off the court. I haven't seen him this happy since his days in Seattle with the Sonics. My wife (a die hard Sonics fan by the way) loves Pookey and has now become a Cavs fan. You would not believe the screaming and yelling that was emitting from our living room from my wife watching that basketball game last night.

Well here we go...off to a great weekend. The Tribe is at the "Jake" this weekend (It's 70's throw back weekend) playing the Detroit Tigers, the Cavs are ready to play the game of their lives against the Detroit Pistons. On behalf of all Clevelanders I would like to welcome all of the visitors from the Greater Detroit Area to Cleveland and please don't hesitate in spending your hard earned money at our fine hotels, bars, and eating establishments. Be sure to visit (while you're here) our wonderful points of interest including our museums, parks, Zoo, and of course the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Go Tribe, Go Cavs, Go Cleveland!!!!

They Can See & Hear Uncle Mud From Seattle!

Wow this Internet stuff really works, huh? Here's a picture of my brother-in-law Howie and nephew David looking at some of our video's on the WNCX web site from Seattle, Washington. David seems pretty amused at seeing Uncle Mud getting his head shaved.

Random Thoughts...

How about those Cavs, huh? LeBron and company did what they were supposed to do and beat the Pistons (finally)! But what's the deal with those national announcers, doesn't sound like they think the Cavs have what it takes to win the series. How about those kids that were there to clean the floor after the miss-hap when the fire extinguisher went hay wire in the score board during the first half of the game. It looked like the ceiling tiles were coming down from the "Q" (which reminded me of a similar event at the King Dome in Seattle, uh we won't go into that now). It was pretty funny though when one of the floor directors brought Charles Barkley some of the ribs from the rib cook off and he said he couldn't eat them because of his new white suit he was wearing. Give me a break Sir Charles, eat the ribs and enjoy the game! We're down 2-1 but this is the start of something very big! Go Cavs!

Dario Franchitti won the Indy 500 yesterday. I love watching the Indy 500. I had a chance to go see it in person in 1992 and that was the last time I swore I'd ever go see it live. Way to many people to contend with. Much better watching it live on TV and now it's in HD so it's just like being there ( well it isn't like being there, but you get the point). My favorite Indy driver is Danica Patrick and she did great finishing 8th in a rain soaked finish that lasted only 166 of 200 laps.

Casey Mears won the Coke 600 NASCAR event in Charlotte, NC yesterday. As he got the checkered flag after the 600 mile race ended he ran out of gas. It's Casey's first win and fifth straight win and the ninth in the past 10 Nextel Cup races for the Rick Hendricks racing team and it was a fun race to watch too.

A great time had by all at the Great American Rib Cook Off...South Side Johnny was great at the Time Warner Amphitheater (brought to you by WNCX by the way) on Saturday. The food was great too. I wish I could make ribs as mouth watering as the ones my wife and I ate this weekend. Hey Famous Dave's, let me work in the kitchen one of these days to see how you get those ribs so good! Also, the Blossom Time in Chagrin Falls was very cool. A special thanks to Alex Bevan, who was at the festival, for showing up on our morning show last Friday. As always Alex, it was great to see you.

I hope you can join Kim and I tomorrow morning (Mike is on vacation this week) 5:30 - 10 am on 98.5 WNCX, Cleveland's Classic Rock.
